“Concentrate on the correct movement each time you exercise, lest you do them improperly and thus lose all vital benefits.”

Joe Pilates

Pilates is essentially about re-educating your body and putting it back together to be more functional, more effective and efficient. It may involve undoing the damage that years of injury, bad posture, babies, bad habit and immobility inflict.

By repeatedly doing positions the same way, our musculature starts to retain a memory of how they feel, and in time will actually adopt them automatically – without us having to think about them.
That’s why it’s important to follow Pilates as intended in order (for Matwork and Reformer)

“Correctly executed to the point of subconscious reaction,” Joseph Pilates said, “these exercises will reflect grace and balance in your routine activities.”

Learning Pilates isn’t just about the exercises. it’s about learning how they link together to form a flow. it’s like a song, with different notes. They don’t make a song just as individual notes, but string them all together and you get some beautiful music!

Once you have learnt the order in Pilates, you can flow from one exercise to another as if it was one exercise with lots of different parts; a song made up of different notes! And trust your muscles will remember!

But then… just for fun… let’s switch it up and REVERSE THE MAT ORDER!

Challenge the autonomy, challenge your mind, keep the flow.

Let’s stick it in reverse!

This is an intermediate level workout. Please note not all exercises are suitable for everybody due to ailments and injuries. If you aren’t sure, please leave this one out. Otherwise, happily adapt to leave out what you shouldn’t do or leave out what you can’t do. If in doubt, leave stuff out!
