Not too long ago, Pete would’ve laughed if you told him he’d be raving about Pilates.
Like most men, his workouts may have revolved around heavy lifting – squats, bench presses, deadlifts. Coupled with long hours commuting, hauling work gear, and spending extended periods at his desk, left him with lingering stiffness and an aching lower back.
When Daily Life Becomes a Workout
Pete’s back would often send a sharp reminder that something had to change. Like many men, Pete was skeptical about Pilates at first. Still, curiosity won out. And that first session surprised him in the best way.
From Skeptic to Reformer Convert
Fast forward to today, Pete is one of our most committed clients. He trains multiple times per week on the Reformer, Tower, Barrels and other classical Pilates equipment. He’s ditched daily aches and embraced a radically different way of strengthening his body.
“It’s addictive,” Pete says. “Not because it’s easy, but because it works. I move better, recover faster, and don’t feel restricted in my body anymore.”
Best of all, men realise they don’t have to give up the gym or stop doing their beloved running, football or golf because of back pain, but adding regular Pilates can give them opportunity to say yes to life again!
Why More Men Choose Classical Pilates
Let’s be honest: many modern habits -desk jobs, driving, lifting etc, take a toll on the body. Add to that the tendency for male bodies to naturally carry tightness in the hamstrings, shoulders, and lower back, and you’ve got a recipe for chronic discomfort.
That’s where classical Pilates steps in.
Pilates Builds Real-World Strength and Mobility
Unlike traditional weight training, Pilates:
- Builds deep core strength and stabilises the spine and joints
- Improves mobility and flexibility where your body needs it most with long lasted change
- Enhances posture and corrects muscular imbalances
- Strengthens with resistance and control using tools like the Reformer and Tower, for a full body workout
For Pete, sessions at our Hitchin Pilates studio helped reverse the effects of long-term tension from commuting and sitting. Now, he has the flexibility to move with ease and the stability to lift without fear of injury.
“I used to feel sore after sitting too long or lifting something awkwardly,” he says. “Now, my body just handles it better.”
