Group Mat Classes
Matwork Pilates
The ultimate goal of Pilates. No toys, no support, no resistance. Just your body, gravity and the mat. It’s what Joe Pilates called your homework between studio apparatus sessions.
But matwork can be the hardest place for a body to execute the exercises correctly, as our bodies may need more support, more strength, more stretch or just more feedback and awareness.
That’s where the apparatus comes in! The studio apparatus with its springs for resistance training and length, and the curves for opening, is designed to help your body achieve results faster, more efficiently, and more evenly.
We always teach matwork so that you can feel your ‘natural’ body and what areas need working on and to feel the connection to the rest of the Pilates method, and so you can take your Pilates with you via the matwork, anywhere you are, on holiday, at work etc.
All of our group sessions are in the studio on the traditional high mat which are the highest quality and firmly padded for your spine’s protection, as well as featuring feet straps and hand dowels. We work on big apparatus like Reformer, Tower, Chairs, Barrels and more, and may also use small props such as Magic Circles, Toe Correctors, weighted poles or hand weights.
This makes for a more authentic approach to Pilates, a connected method, and a more well-rounded session.
